Narrative:
On takeoff we got a right thrust reverser unlock light. No adverse yaw; but light would not go out. Since we were going to ZZZZ1 we didn't think it wise to continue. We landed back at ZZZ with no reverse needed. We did not declare an emergency because everything seemed fine. But after a very smooth landing we realized we were overweight by 12000 pounds. We taxied to the gate with no incident.
