Narrative:
During preflight discovered lime green fluorescent tape around a bundle of wires in the nosewheel. The tape was stuffing the wires into a gap on the nose gear assembly slightly in front the nose gear lock down pin; but behind the vertical portion of the gear. I called line maintenance and asked for a mechanic. A mechanic appeared and I asked if this was normal since I never recall seeing it on any airplane during my 7 yrs of preflts. He looked at it and said 'no; someone's in deep....' we wrote up the item. Maintenance investigated and could not find any history or reason why this tape was holding the bundle of wires to the nose gear. An avionics technician signed off the logbook.
