Narrative:
After takeoff from lga; we experienced an abnormal landing gear indication after gear retraction. The red nose gear light was illuminated along with the amber 'gear doors' light. In addition; there was also some wind noise and vibration coming from the nose gear area. We referenced the QRH procedure and contacted the dispatcher and maintenance coordinator. After a discussion of the problem; we were all in agreement that the best course of action was to land at jfk. We coordinated with ATC and performed a normal; uneventful landing on runway 31L.
