Narrative:
After taking off on an IFR flight plan with a clearance void time I turned the wrong way initially which caused alarm with the controller due to high terrain in the area. I did continue the turn to the correct heading almost immediately. A review of the departure procedure would have prevented this concern.

Title: PA44 PLT HAS A TRACK AND HDG DEV ON DEP FROM EMT.
Narrative: AFTER TAKING OFF ON AN IFR FLT PLAN WITH A CLRNC VOID TIME I TURNED THE WRONG WAY INITIALLY WHICH CAUSED ALARM WITH THE CTLR DUE TO HIGH TERRAIN IN THE AREA. I DID CONTINUE THE TURN TO THE CORRECT HDG ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. A REVIEW OF THE DEP PROC WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS CONCERN.
