Narrative:
Zurich departure from runway 16: commercial chart I specifically states no turns prior to klo 1 DME. Commercial chart ii also states the same thing: no turns prior to 1 DME. Situation: first ever trip into zurich. Sitting on runway awaiting takeoff clearance; my DME reads 2.0. 1/2 way down the runway; my DME read 1.5. Wouldn't it be natural that at the departure end; my DME would read 1.0? It makes perfect sense. This restr must apply to light weight aircraft taking off 1/3 the way down the runway -- right? At 360000 pounds; my takeoff was light weight compared to a 400000 pound takeoff. At 400 ft; I call 'turning left.' my first officer tells me to wait. It seems my DME now read 0.6. Nowhere in the verbiage on either page does it state 1 DME south of the VOR. South is an important point. Only by reviewing the commercial chart I again; do I see a small arc on the pictorial view that is labeled 1 DME. Suggestion: state in the verbiage on either page that the turn is not to start until 1 DME south of the VOR.

Narrative: ZURICH DEP FROM RWY 16: COMMERCIAL CHART I SPECIFICALLY STATES NO TURNS PRIOR TO KLO 1 DME. COMMERCIAL CHART II ALSO STATES THE SAME THING: NO TURNS PRIOR TO 1 DME. SITUATION: FIRST EVER TRIP INTO ZURICH. SITTING ON RWY AWAITING TKOF CLRNC; MY DME READS 2.0. 1/2 WAY DOWN THE RWY; MY DME READ 1.5. WOULDN'T IT BE NATURAL THAT AT THE DEP END; MY DME WOULD READ 1.0? IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE. THIS RESTR MUST APPLY TO LIGHT WT ACFT TAKING OFF 1/3 THE WAY DOWN THE RWY -- RIGHT? AT 360000 LBS; MY TKOF WAS LIGHT WT COMPARED TO A 400000 LB TKOF. AT 400 FT; I CALL 'TURNING L.' MY FO TELLS ME TO WAIT. IT SEEMS MY DME NOW READ 0.6. NOWHERE IN THE VERBIAGE ON EITHER PAGE DOES IT STATE 1 DME S OF THE VOR. S IS AN IMPORTANT POINT. ONLY BY REVIEWING THE COMMERCIAL CHART I AGAIN; DO I SEE A SMALL ARC ON THE PICTORIAL VIEW THAT IS LABELED 1 DME. SUGGESTION: STATE IN THE VERBIAGE ON EITHER PAGE THAT THE TURN IS NOT TO START UNTIL 1 DME S OF THE VOR.
