Narrative:
I was called to defer an automatic temperature controller which was wrote up as the l-hand side. I applied MEL X and should have applied MEL Y. This has the same restrs; just opposite sides with no airworthiness consideration.

Title: A B737-300 HAD THE L PACK AUTO TEMP CTL DEFERRED PER THE MEL. MAINT CTLR GAVE INCORRECT REF FOR DEFERRAL.
Narrative: I WAS CALLED TO DEFER AN AUTO TEMP CTLR WHICH WAS WROTE UP AS THE L-HAND SIDE. I APPLIED MEL X AND SHOULD HAVE APPLIED MEL Y. THIS HAS THE SAME RESTRS; JUST OPPOSITE SIDES WITH NO AIRWORTHINESS CONSIDERATION.
