Narrative:
I was notified today jan/xa/07 of an event that happened on may/xa/06 regarding aircraft first stage fan blades. Required replacement due to FOD the blades were replaced in accordance with maintenance manual procedures. The mpn (manufacturer's part number) were installed. The differences between is mpn 1 and 002. In most cases the dash numbers are not legible and the paperwork has no dash numbers recorded. The engine shop found this problem at overhaul; stating wrong blades were installed. I am presently pursuing documentation in forms of records from engine shop and aog (aircraft on ground) list and serial numbers. Mpn's are identical; so I will be more diligent in the future if it is found to be an error on my part. Dash numbers are not always stamped or etched in bottom of blades. All series a blades; which air carrier no longer uses; have been pulled from stock to ensure no further incidents.
