Narrative:
On jan/thu/07; I was assigned to work on aircraft ship X. The task I was assigned was to install new elevator index plates on both the left and right side of the tail; which were missing/broken. The work document I was working on was a non-routine work card; operation number. I followed the maintenance manual to install the index plates and took great care to remove the attachment rivets carefully. Upon completion of installing the index plates I looked inside the APU compartment to the areas where the index plates were installed. On the right side installation I noticed 2 small dents in the location of the index plate fasteners. I had already completed the work document at the time I noticed the dents. It was the end of my shift; so I notified the oncoming lead mechanic and pointed the dents out to him. When I looked at the dents I did not notice any further damage. I used great care in following maintenance manual procedures to replace the index plates; and I believe I was not the cause of these dents. I am filing this report because I do not know if the dents were repaired or even required a repair.
