Narrative:
Just prior to takeoff fog began to roll into pdx airport and was just about to ACARS dispatch when pdx tower said RVR more than 6000 ft cleared for takeoff. On climb out contacted pdx departure with no response. At 4500 ft pdx departure said company # are you up? We said yes and they said radar contact turn left 030 degree to join J16. I the pilot monitoring put the intercept in the FMC and told my first officer that it was in the box. He questioned it and turned to join J16 off of raw data but still had pdx VOR in and not btg. I immediately questioned this and said we were south of J16. We turned to 030 degrees and we were told by pdx departure to turn to 360 degrees to join J16 off of btg not pdx. We joined J16 and the rest of the flight was normal. J16 needs to be depicted on the river six departure; or a fix need to be added that pdx departure can clear aircraft to where a 030 degree heading joins the btg 069 degrees. And a note needs to be added to the 10-7 page. We were told by pdx departure that we were the fourth aircraft this weekend to do what we did.
