Narrative:
Center kept us way high at civet (18000 ft). Tried to get lower prior but had crossing traffic and was to maintain 18000 ft. Just prior to civet center had us change to runway 24R from runway 25R and also had us change frequency to approach control. A lot going on above 'normal' civet crossing altitude. Got the clearance to continue to descend via the civet 24R arrival. Tried everything to get the aircraft down but kept way too high by previous controller. Approach asked if we were going to make the 'altitude.' we responded that we will try. Crossed decor at 11000 ft and nothing was said. We then got the change to runway 24L! Complied and uneventful landing on runway 24L. I thought I was in a simulator training scenario! ATC should have passed on to approach the high civet crossing altitude and given us some slack. I would have said something but I was busy trying to slow from 280 KTS to 250 KTS and get down an additional 4000 ft from civet.

Title: A B767-200 MISSED A LAX CIVET ALT CONSTRAINT AFTER 3 RWY CHANGES BELOW 18000 FT AND PRIOR TO 11000 FT.
Narrative: CENTER KEPT US WAY HIGH AT CIVET (18000 FT). TRIED TO GET LOWER PRIOR BUT HAD CROSSING TFC AND WAS TO MAINTAIN 18000 FT. JUST PRIOR TO CIVET CTR HAD US CHANGE TO RWY 24R FROM RWY 25R AND ALSO HAD US CHANGE FREQ TO APCH CTL. A LOT GOING ON ABOVE 'NORMAL' CIVET CROSSING ALT. GOT THE CLRNC TO CONTINUE TO DSND VIA THE CIVET 24R ARR. TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET THE ACFT DOWN BUT KEPT WAY TOO HIGH BY PREVIOUS CTLR. APCH ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO MAKE THE 'ALT.' WE RESPONDED THAT WE WILL TRY. CROSSED DECOR AT 11000 FT AND NOTHING WAS SAID. WE THEN GOT THE CHANGE TO RWY 24L! COMPLIED AND UNEVENTFUL LNDG ON RWY 24L. I THOUGHT I WAS IN A SIMULATOR TRAINING SCENARIO! ATC SHOULD HAVE PASSED ON TO APCH THE HIGH CIVET CROSSING ALT AND GIVEN US SOME SLACK. I WOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING BUT I WAS BUSY TRYING TO SLOW FROM 280 KTS TO 250 KTS AND GET DOWN AN ADDITIONAL 4000 FT FROM CIVET.
