Narrative:
Departed from teb and was to conduct the teb 5 departure SID. We launched from runway 24 teb climbed on runway heading to 1500 ft and made a right turn to head 280 degrees. The SID called for us to wait until 4.5 DME before we started the turn. I didn't notice that portion of the SID which is in a separate instruction box for DME and non DME aircraft. The departure controller advised us to next time wait for 4.5 DME before starting the turn and that it happens often. 'Gets em every time' is his exact quote. I should have fully read the departure SID. The SID should have all the departure instructions all in one box or field for ease of understanding.
