Narrative:
My direction of travel was southwest (VFR). I was cleared for takeoff with right turn out approved. No traffic was provided by tower. After turning crosswind at about 300 ft AGL and then continuing turn toward my southwest heading I saw a cessna almost directly overhead on a north heading and about 250 ft above me. I leveled out and then after clearing the other aircraft began to resume climb. Just as I was about to inform the tower; the other aircraft reported the event to tower stating that the diamond (me) passed within '50 yds.' tower then asked me if I had the cessna traffic which of course I then had. I reported back that I had the traffic. I continued monitoring the tower frequency and a couple of mins later the cessna made a further comment to the tower that 'that was too close.' the tower reported back to him that the diamond had the traffic. Although true after the event; it was not true at the time of the event.

Title: A DA40 PILOT REPORTED HAVING An NMAC WITH A CESSNA SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RYY.
Narrative: MY DIRECTION OF TRAVEL WAS SW (VFR). I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF WITH R TURN OUT APPROVED. NO TFC WAS PROVIDED BY TWR. AFTER TURNING XWIND AT ABOUT 300 FT AGL AND THEN CONTINUING TURN TOWARD MY SW HDG I SAW A CESSNA ALMOST DIRECTLY OVERHEAD ON A N HDG AND ABOUT 250 FT ABOVE ME. I LEVELED OUT AND THEN AFTER CLRING THE OTHER ACFT BEGAN TO RESUME CLB. JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO INFORM THE TWR; THE OTHER ACFT RPTED THE EVENT TO TWR STATING THAT THE DIAMOND (ME) PASSED WITHIN '50 YDS.' TWR THEN ASKED ME IF I HAD THE CESSNA TFC WHICH OF COURSE I THEN HAD. I RPTED BACK THAT I HAD THE TFC. I CONTINUED MONITORING THE TWR FREQ AND A COUPLE OF MINS LATER THE CESSNA MADE A FURTHER COMMENT TO THE TWR THAT 'THAT WAS TOO CLOSE.' THE TWR RPTED BACK TO HIM THAT THE DIAMOND HAD THE TFC. ALTHOUGH TRUE AFTER THE EVENT; IT WAS NOT TRUE AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT.
