Narrative:

While working at ZNY sector 75; uret be became an impediment to the safe and efficient movement of traffic. As the workload at the sector began to increase; it became extremely difficult to maintain entries into uret. The choice then became whether to slow down the traffic to fit the inadequacies of uret; or stop using uret and continue to provide a level of service not possible with uret. Therefore; I chose to discontinue using uret; and provide the best possible service to the users. However; this resulted in substantial information not being documented. When I was given a handoff controller to assist me; I had to spend an excess amount of time explaining to him what had been coordination; but not entered into uret. When flight strips were used; the level of traffic that was being worked could easily be handled with no loss of recorded information. Uret requires too much time away from the radar scope to be used when traffic levels increase.

Title: ZNY CTLR VOICED CONCERN REGARDING URET EQUIP DURING BUSY TFC PERIODS; ALLEGING URET TAKES TOO MUCH TIME AWAY FROM THE RADAR DISPLAYS.

Narrative: WHILE WORKING AT ZNY SECTOR 75; URET BE BECAME AN IMPEDIMENT TO THE SAFE AND EFFICIENT MOVEMENT OF TFC. AS THE WORKLOAD AT THE SECTOR BEGAN TO INCREASE; IT BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN ENTRIES INTO URET. THE CHOICE THEN BECAME WHETHER TO SLOW DOWN THE TFC TO FIT THE INADEQUACIES OF URET; OR STOP USING URET AND CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A LEVEL OF SVC NOT POSSIBLE WITH URET. THEREFORE; I CHOSE TO DISCONTINUE USING URET; AND PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE SVC TO THE USERS. HOWEVER; THIS RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL INFO NOT BEING DOCUMENTED. WHEN I WAS GIVEN A HDOF CTLR TO ASSIST ME; I HAD TO SPEND AN EXCESS AMOUNT OF TIME EXPLAINING TO HIM WHAT HAD BEEN COORD; BUT NOT ENTERED INTO URET. WHEN FLT STRIPS WERE USED; THE LEVEL OF TFC THAT WAS BEING WORKED COULD EASILY BE HANDLED WITH NO LOSS OF RECORDED INFO. URET REQUIRES TOO MUCH TIME AWAY FROM THE RADAR SCOPE TO BE USED WHEN TFC LEVELS INCREASE.
