Narrative:
I was the PF for the flight to bwi. We received the WX and were planning on a visual approach. We spoke of a visual approach to runway 28; hoping to get it because we were approaching from the northeast and it was more of a straight-in pattern. Since we had not been told which approach to expect; we briefed visuals to both runway 28 and runway 33L. We were told to descend to 2000 ft and we then called the airport in sight. The approach controller cleared us for the visual to runway 33L. At about 2.5 miles from the approach end to runway 28; tower said that it looked like we were lined up with runway 28 instead of runway 33L and that we were now cleared to land on runway 28. The rest of the flight was uneventful. More situational awareness from the PF.

Title: A B737-700 CREW RPTS A CLRNC FOR BWI RWY 33L; BUT FLYING THE RWY 28 VISUAL APCH BECAUSE OF AN APCH BRIEFING EXPECTING RWY 28.
Narrative: I WAS THE PF FOR THE FLT TO BWI. WE RECEIVED THE WX AND WERE PLANNING ON A VISUAL APCH. WE SPOKE OF A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 28; HOPING TO GET IT BECAUSE WE WERE APCHING FROM THE NE AND IT WAS MORE OF A STRAIGHT-IN PATTERN. SINCE WE HAD NOT BEEN TOLD WHICH APCH TO EXPECT; WE BRIEFED VISUALS TO BOTH RWY 28 AND RWY 33L. WE WERE TOLD TO DESCEND TO 2000 FT AND WE THEN CALLED THE ARPT IN SIGHT. THE APCH CTLR CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 33L. AT ABOUT 2.5 MILES FROM THE APCH END TO RWY 28; TWR SAID THAT IT LOOKED LIKE WE WERE LINED UP WITH RWY 28 INSTEAD OF RWY 33L AND THAT WE WERE NOW CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 28. THE REST OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. MORE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS FROM THE PF.
