Narrative:

Departing teb on the teb 5 departure we climbed on runway heading to 1500 ft then turned right to 280 degrees then leveled to the 4.5 DME fix then climbed to 2000 ft. All exactly like the departure instructs. ATC then asked our altitude and we said 2000 ft. He said I thought you were going to 1500 ft? I said we did then climbed to 2000 ft. He said you haven't gotten to DME 4.5 miles yet. Per our pre-programmed mfd we had achieved approximately 4 DME. It is difficult to be exact to 4.5 DME in moderate low level turbulence. Perhaps we may have been off by a slight amount in DME. If so we apologize. Neither we nor any other plane was affected by this. Winds were 30 KTS and coming off the hills.

Title: BE40 FLT CREW CLIMBS TO 2000 FT PRIOR TO 4.5 DME ON THE TEB 5 DEP.

Narrative: DEPARTING TEB ON THE TEB 5 DEP WE CLIMBED ON RWY HEADING TO 1500 FT THEN TURNED R TO 280 DEGS THEN LEVELED TO THE 4.5 DME FIX THEN CLIMBED TO 2000 FT. ALL EXACTLY LIKE THE DEP INSTRUCTS. ATC THEN ASKED OUR ALT AND WE SAID 2000 FT. HE SAID I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO 1500 FT? I SAID WE DID THEN CLIMBED TO 2000 FT. HE SAID YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO DME 4.5 MILES YET. PER OUR PRE-PROGRAMMED MFD WE HAD ACHIEVED APPROX 4 DME. IT IS DIFFICULT TO BE EXACT TO 4.5 DME IN MODERATE LOW LEVEL TURB. PERHAPS WE MAY HAVE BEEN OFF BY A SLIGHT AMOUNT IN DME. IF SO WE APOLOGIZE. NEITHER WE NOR ANY OTHER PLANE WAS AFFECTED BY THIS. WINDS WERE 30 KTS AND COMING OFF THE HILLS.
