Narrative:

I was en route from an annual antique fly-in to my home base. Approximately 5 mi southwest of ZZZ; I experienced engine trouble and landed in an uncut wheat field. My open cockpit antique was completely intact and undamaged. The only possible issue would be that some wheat was knocked down around the airplane; which I have reimbursed the land owner. A most kind sheriff's deputy drove me home. About 20 mi and while en route; he was called via cell phone by an FAA agent from our local FSDO telling him to tell me that he was going to call the NTSB and that I was not to move the airplane until he had personally approved it. As there was no damage to me; my airplane; or to any other person or property; I see no regulatory requirement to even make a report to anyone for such an occurrence. To me; it was most urgent to remove my airplane from any possible storm damage. The next day I dismantled the craft and trailered it home. I now find myself playing phone tag with an inspector from the FSDO claiming to be investigating my 'crash.' his tone; attitude; speech and manner suggest he full well knows I have done something terribly wrong and his apparent intention is to pester me until he discovers just what it might have been. Having said that; I feel that making this report is unnecessary; but I think you get my point. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: this aircraft is an original; with the original; if somewhat unreliable engine. Apparently an individual from the local FSDO inspected the aircraft before it was moved and confirmed that no damage had been sustained.

Title: PLT OF AN ANTIQUE ACFT EXPERIENCED ENG TROUBLE AND ACCOMPLISHED SUCCESSFUL FORCED LNDG.

Narrative: I WAS ENRTE FROM AN ANNUAL ANTIQUE FLY-IN TO MY HOME BASE. APPROX 5 MI SW OF ZZZ; I EXPERIENCED ENG TROUBLE AND LANDED IN AN UNCUT WHEAT FIELD. ABOUT 20 MI AND WHILE ENRTE; HE WAS CALLED VIA CELL PHONE BY AN FAA AGENT FROM OUR LCL FSDO TELLING HIM TO TELL ME THAT HE WAS GOING TO CALL THE NTSB AND THAT I WAS NOT TO MOVE THE AIRPLANE UNTIL HE HAD PERSONALLY APPROVED IT. AS THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ME; MY AIRPLANE; OR TO ANY OTHER PERSON OR PROPERTY; I SEE NO REGULATORY REQUIREMENT TO EVEN MAKE A RPT TO ANYONE FOR SUCH AN OCCURRENCE. HAVING SAID THAT; I FEEL THAT MAKING THIS RPT IS UNNECESSARY; BUT I THINK YOU GET MY POINT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THIS ACFT IS AN ORIGINAL; WITH THE ORIGINAL; IF SOMEWHAT UNRELIABLE ENG. APPARENTLY AN INDIVIDUAL FROM THE LOCAL FSDO INSPECTED THE ACFT BEFORE IT WAS MOVED AND CONFIRMED THAT NO DAMAGE HAD BEEN SUSTAINED.
