Narrative:

I was the PF; captain was the PNF. On initial contact with ny approach control while flying the camrn 4 arrival were given expect ILS runway 4R. ILS runway 4R at jfk was briefed; the flight instruments and bugs were set for landing runway 4R. We were handed off to the next controller who instructed us to fly heading 340 degrees for rv to ILS runway 4R. Captain continued with the 'before landing checklist.' we were then instructed to fly heading 010 degrees of intercept runway 4R localizer; asked that we kept our speed up and would have speed reductions in a few miles. Intercepted course and was given a speed reduction I believe it was 180 KTS shortly thereafter. Approximately 30-60 seconds after speed reduction approach control asked if we were intercepting runway 4L. Captain responded 'no; we were instructed to intercept runway 4R.' controller 'air carrier X just turn left and intercept runway 4L frequency is 110.9 maintain...you are cleared ILS runway 4L.' made a left turn to intercept while captain set-up the aircraft for runway 4L...intercepted the localizer/GS inside 10 miles instructed to contact kennedy tower 123.9...received clearance to land and landed without further incident.
