Narrative:

During taxi from the front of the avionics (north) hangar at the lyh airport; the nosewheel of the aircraft ran over a drainage grate on the apron leading to the taxiway. This grate was depressed from the adjacent pavement by approximately 5 to 6 inches. This depression caused the nosewheel to dip; which apparently resulted in the propeller contacting the ground. The contact was not noted by unusual sound and the subsequent run-up checks were normal. There was no vibration or other apparent indication of damage so the takeoff was made. The propeller damage was noted upon subsequent landing. The depressed drain in an active taxi location constitutes a hazard.callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the depressed grate is located on the ramp in front of the FBO building southwest of hotel taxiway. The airport manager was notified and an orange cone was placed over the grate. Propeller strikes on this engine require disassembly and inspection.

Title: PA32 PILOT REPORTS PROPELLER DAMAGE CAUSED BY A DEPRESSED DRAINAGE GRATE AT LYH ALLOWING PROPELLER TO CONTACT THE RAMP SURFACE.

Narrative: DURING TAXI FROM THE FRONT OF THE AVIONICS (NORTH) HANGAR AT THE LYH ARPT; THE NOSEWHEEL OF THE ACFT RAN OVER A DRAINAGE GRATE ON THE APRON LEADING TO THE TXWY. THIS GRATE WAS DEPRESSED FROM THE ADJACENT PAVEMENT BY APPROX 5 TO 6 INCHES. THIS DEPRESSION CAUSED THE NOSEWHEEL TO DIP; WHICH APPARENTLY RESULTED IN THE PROPELLER CONTACTING THE GND. THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTED BY UNUSUAL SOUND AND THE SUBSEQUENT RUN-UP CHKS WERE NORMAL. THERE WAS NO VIBRATION OR OTHER APPARENT INDICATION OF DAMAGE SO THE TAKEOFF WAS MADE. THE PROPELLER DAMAGE WAS NOTED UPON SUBSEQUENT LNDG. THE DEPRESSED DRAIN IN AN ACTIVE TAXI LOCATION CONSTITUTES A HAZARD.CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE DEPRESSED GRATE IS LOCATED ON THE RAMP IN FRONT OF THE FBO BUILDING SOUTHWEST OF HOTEL TXWY. THE ARPT MANAGER WAS NOTIFIED AND AN ORANGE CONE WAS PLACED OVER THE GRATE. PROPELLER STRIKES ON THIS ENGINE REQUIRE DISASSEMBLY AND INSPECTION.
