Narrative:
Received B757 door center left shaft from dock maintenance. Logs indicates shaft XXX1 was used in the L-1 door. This door requires the XXX2 shaft. This is an on-going problem with shafts being changed by dock maintenance. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated the main cabin pass door handle center shafts come in two different lengths applicable to certain door positions. The difference in lengths are as little as .011' of an inch. Installing the incorrect center shaft can cause the door external butterfly handle to drag and gouge the outer surface of the handle pan. His company is re-cycling their door shafts due to a six month delay in getting a new shaft from the mfg.
