Narrative:
This was an EA50 type rating training flight. The eclipse aircraft was in published holding in VMC over the santa flight engineer VOR. Santa flight engineer tower was advised that the EA50 was in holding at 9500 ft. Inbound over the VOR on a heading of 334 degrees a C170 was spotted at the 2 O'clock position approximately 200 ft below; apparently in level cruise flight on an approximately southwesterly heading. A victor airway crosses the santa flight engineer VOR on the course of 255 degrees. The trainee was using a view restricting device; simulating IMC. When the second aircraft was observed by the instructor pilot and pointed out to the PF; the PF initiated a climb; and the cessna aircraft passed approximately 300 ft below the EA50. The cessna appeared to take no evasive action. The near miss was the result of the aspect of the 2 aircraft (the cessna near the abeam position of the eclipse and the cessna's high wing restricting upward visibility). The cessna was within 200 ft of an 'eastbound' VFR altitude; although 'wbound;' and the eclipse was maintaining a constant 'eastbound' VFR altitude in the holding pattern. The VOR is the convergence of several airways and the location of the published missed approach holding pattern for the VOR runway 33 approach at santa flight engineer. Continuous vigilance in VMC and when operating VFR must be maintained at points of congestion.

Narrative: THIS WAS AN EA50 TYPE RATING TRAINING FLT. THE ECLIPSE ACFT WAS IN PUBLISHED HOLDING IN VMC OVER THE SANTA FE VOR. SANTA FE TWR WAS ADVISED THAT THE EA50 WAS IN HOLDING AT 9500 FT. INBOUND OVER THE VOR ON A HDG OF 334 DEGS A C170 WAS SPOTTED AT THE 2 O'CLOCK POS APPROX 200 FT BELOW; APPARENTLY IN LEVEL CRUISE FLT ON AN APPROX SOUTHWESTERLY HDG.
