Narrative:
Aircraft was dispatched with broken rod end for thrust reverser control rod to fuel control. This allowed forward thrust to be applied to engine when thrust reverser lever is deployed. This was causing asymmetrical thrust on landing and braking. PIREP was repeated several times since july. ZZZ maintenance troubleshot item and reported damaged part. Aircraft was dispatched with problem. Item was reported upon arrival at ZZZ1 on trip in july. Maintenance was notified of repeating problem; and was suggested that aircraft be taken OTS. MEL does not cover this kind of problem. This was what was authority/authorized as per MD80 technical service; and complied with as per procedures manual. If thrust reverser lever was locked down; this would have prevented forward thrust to be applied to engine.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A MD80 ACFT WAS DISPATCHED WITH BROKEN ROD END FOR THRUST REVERSER CONTROL ROD TO FUEL CONTROL. THIS ALLOWED FWD THRUST WHEN THRUST REVERSER LEVER IS DEPLOYED CAUSING ASYMMETRICAL THRUST ON LANDING WHEN BRAKING.
Narrative: ACFT WAS DISPATCHED WITH BROKEN ROD END FOR THRUST REVERSER CTL ROD TO FUEL CTL. THIS ALLOWED FORWARD THRUST TO BE APPLIED TO ENG WHEN THRUST REVERSER LEVER IS DEPLOYED. THIS WAS CAUSING ASYMMETRICAL THRUST ON LNDG AND BRAKING. PIREP WAS REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE JULY. ZZZ MAINT TROUBLESHOT ITEM AND RPTED DAMAGED PART. ACFT WAS DISPATCHED WITH PROB. ITEM WAS RPTED UPON ARR AT ZZZ1 ON TRIP IN JULY. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED OF REPEATING PROB; AND WAS SUGGESTED THAT ACFT BE TAKEN OTS. MEL DOES NOT COVER THIS KIND OF PROB. THIS WAS WHAT WAS AUTH AS PER MD80 TECHNICAL SVC; AND COMPLIED WITH AS PER PROCS MANUAL. IF THRUST REVERSER LEVER WAS LOCKED DOWN; THIS WOULD HAVE PREVENTED FORWARD THRUST TO BE APPLIED TO ENG.
