Narrative:
WX: night VMC with patchy clouds at 3000 ft MSL. We were cleared the bachman 5 departure to 5000 ft MSL. As we turned to intercept the cve 139 degree radial climbing through 3000 ft MSL; we received a TCAS; 'monitor vertical speed;' rapidly followed by a 'descend; descend' RA. The first officer then noticed an anti-collision beacon at 1 O'clock position. I complied with the RA as departure control directed a 30 degree left turn and a further climb. Departure control then informed us of 'VFR mitsubishi at 3500 ft.' soon after we received the TCAS 'clear of conflict' audio and I continued the climb and heading directed by ATC. We told departure control we had received an RA. At no time was collision imminent. ATC might identify the traffic conflict earlier and not clear one aircraft through the altitude of another aircraft.

Title: B737 DEP FROM DFW EXPERIENCED TCAS RA WITH UNREPORTED VFR TFC AT APPROX 3000'.
Narrative: WX: NIGHT VMC WITH PATCHY CLOUDS AT 3000 FT MSL. WE WERE CLRED THE BACHMAN 5 DEP TO 5000 FT MSL. AS WE TURNED TO INTERCEPT THE CVE 139 DEG RADIAL CLBING THROUGH 3000 FT MSL; WE RECEIVED A TCAS; 'MONITOR VERT SPD;' RAPIDLY FOLLOWED BY A 'DSND; DSND' RA. THE FO THEN NOTICED AN ANTI-COLLISION BEACON AT 1 O'CLOCK POS. I COMPLIED WITH THE RA AS DEP CTL DIRECTED A 30 DEG L TURN AND A FURTHER CLB. DEP CTL THEN INFORMED US OF 'VFR MITSUBISHI AT 3500 FT.' SOON AFTER WE RECEIVED THE TCAS 'CLR OF CONFLICT' AUDIO AND I CONTINUED THE CLB AND HDG DIRECTED BY ATC. WE TOLD DEP CTL WE HAD RECEIVED AN RA. AT NO TIME WAS COLLISION IMMINENT. ATC MIGHT IDENT THE TFC CONFLICT EARLIER AND NOT CLR ONE ACFT THROUGH THE ALT OF ANOTHER ACFT.
