Narrative:
On our final approach to ILS runway 25L at lax; we were advised of foreign air carrier (B737) approaching from the south (our left) who would cross our flight path for a visual approach to runway 25R. We were assigned 200 KTS. We acquired visual contact with the B737 at approximately 5 mi on a 45 degree bearing slightly above our altitude. When it became apparent that a potential conflict would occur; we began slowing to 180 KTS. Shortly thereafter; ATC assigned us a speed reduction to 180 KTS. As separation continued to decrease; the B737 also continued to descend resulting in a TCAS RA commanded descent. We advised ATC of the RA and began our descent below the glidepath. The B737 crossed approximately 500 ft ahead and 300 ft above us as he turned on to final for runway 25R; the parallel runway. We leveled off at approximately 1800 ft MSL after TCAS annunciated clear of traffic and maneuvered left of centerline away from foreign air carrier to increase nose tail separation. An uneventful landing followed by both aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-800 FLT CREW REPORTS TCAS RA AT 2200 FEET ON FINAL TO 25L AT LAX; WITH FOREIGN ACR B737 ON VISUAL TO 25R FROM THE SOUTH. FLT CREW FOLLOWS RA TO DESCEND AND CONTINUES TO LAND 25L.
Narrative: ON OUR FINAL APCH TO ILS RWY 25L AT LAX; WE WERE ADVISED OF FOREIGN ACR (B737) APCHING FROM THE S (OUR L) WHO WOULD CROSS OUR FLT PATH FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 25R. WE WERE ASSIGNED 200 KTS. WE ACQUIRED VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE B737 AT APPROX 5 MI ON A 45 DEG BEARING SLIGHTLY ABOVE OUR ALT. WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT A POTENTIAL CONFLICT WOULD OCCUR; WE BEGAN SLOWING TO 180 KTS. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; ATC ASSIGNED US A SPD REDUCTION TO 180 KTS. AS SEPARATION CONTINUED TO DECREASE; THE B737 ALSO CONTINUED TO DSND RESULTING IN A TCAS RA COMMANDED DSCNT. WE ADVISED ATC OF THE RA AND BEGAN OUR DSCNT BELOW THE GLIDEPATH. THE B737 CROSSED APPROX 500 FT AHEAD AND 300 FT ABOVE US AS HE TURNED ON TO FINAL FOR RWY 25R; THE PARALLEL RWY. WE LEVELED OFF AT APPROX 1800 FT MSL AFTER TCAS ANNUNCIATED CLR OF TFC AND MANEUVERED L OF CTRLINE AWAY FROM FOREIGN ACR TO INCREASE NOSE TAIL SEPARATION. AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG FOLLOWED BY BOTH ACFT.
