Narrative:
The cockpit was hit twice with a green laser light while being vectored for a visual approach to runway 28R at sfo. Our position was on base leg near the dumbarton bridge; heading north. Altitude was approximately 5000 ft. We noticed a bright green sparkling light on the east side of the bay approximately 1 mi west of the dumbarton and within 1/2 mi of the shoreline (union city/fremont area). The laser then focused directly into the cockpit for 1-2 seconds. Approximately 10 seconds alter a second occurrence of the focused laser hit us. The light came directly into the cockpit from our 12 O'clock position. The first officer was flying and said he was ok to continue the approach. I taxied to the gate after landing without a problem but had an odd sensation and slightly blurred vision in my right eye. I visited a local hospital emergency room immediately after leaving the airport. There appears to be no damage to my eyes from the exposure to the laser. Supplemental information from acn 754829: the captain informed norcal approach and the local sfo tower controller of the incident at the time it occurred. Dispatch and the fodm were notified of the incident after landing in sfo.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B777-200 FLT CREW WAS THE TARGET OF A LASER WHILE CONDUCTING A VISUAL APCH INTO SFO. THE COCKPIT WAS ILLUMINATED TWICE DURING THE ENCOUNTER.
Narrative: THE COCKPIT WAS HIT TWICE WITH A GREEN LASER LIGHT WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 28R AT SFO. OUR POS WAS ON BASE LEG NEAR THE DUMBARTON BRIDGE; HEADING N. ALT WAS APPROX 5000 FT. WE NOTICED A BRIGHT GREEN SPARKLING LIGHT ON THE E SIDE OF THE BAY APPROX 1 MI W OF THE DUMBARTON AND WITHIN 1/2 MI OF THE SHORELINE (UNION CITY/FREMONT AREA). THE LASER THEN FOCUSED DIRECTLY INTO THE COCKPIT FOR 1-2 SECONDS. APPROX 10 SECONDS ALTER A SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THE FOCUSED LASER HIT US. THE LIGHT CAME DIRECTLY INTO THE COCKPIT FROM OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS. THE FO WAS FLYING AND SAID HE WAS OK TO CONTINUE THE APCH. I TAXIED TO THE GATE AFTER LNDG WITHOUT A PROB BUT HAD AN ODD SENSATION AND SLIGHTLY BLURRED VISION IN MY R EYE. I VISITED A LCL HOSPITAL EMER ROOM IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE ARPT. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO DAMAGE TO MY EYES FROM THE EXPOSURE TO THE LASER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 754829: THE CAPT INFORMED NORCAL APCH AND THE LCL SFO TWR CTLR OF THE INCIDENT AT THE TIME IT OCCURRED. DISPATCH AND THE FODM WERE NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT AFTER LNDG IN SFO.
