Narrative:

On the teb 5 departure from runway 24 it states; 'climb to 1500 ft then right turn to heading of 280 degrees. Maintain 1500 ft until crossing passing 4.5 DME then climb and maintain 2000 ft.' I misread the departure description and passed through 1500 ft and stopped at 2000 ft on a heading of 280 degrees prior to passing 4.5 DME.callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he was single pilot in the aircraft on the day of this event but that the technology is advanced enough that it is an easy aircraft to fly. The mistake he made that day was simply a failure of 'due diligence' on his part.
