Narrative:
Just 30 mins flight time at FL330; we were ferrying an L1011. We got a caution warning light for #1 engine oil filter bypass light on which in flight requires a shutdown. We also needed a drift down from FL330 to FL250 to maintain safe speed and flight envelope. We advised center. After several mins of no clearance down; we declared an emergency and started to FL250. Once we declared emergency we were then able to get clearance to ZZZ1 where maintenance and parts to repair this fault were readily available. Landing in ZZZ would have done no good; as spare parts we needed were in the onboard fly-a-way kit. With 2 remaining good engines and an APU running; ZZZ1 was the suitable airfield of choice for landing. All emergency/abnormal/additional procedures per flight manual were performed. Return leg to ZZZ1 and landing were uneventful.
