Narrative:
On teb 5 SID 1500 ft should be maintained until 4.5 DME then climb and maintain 2000 ft. A finger mistake of scrolling 2500 ft instead of 1500 ft on the altitude preselect has caused me to continue climb before reaching 4.5 DME. There was no TCAS alert or close traffic at any time. Climb was stopped at 2200 ft when the controller brought it to my attention.

Title: MIS-SET ALT ALERT SETTING RESULTS IN ALT BUST ON TEB SID FOR H25B FLT CREW.
Narrative: ON TEB 5 SID 1500 FT SHOULD BE MAINTAINED UNTIL 4.5 DME THEN CLB AND MAINTAIN 2000 FT. A FINGER MISTAKE OF SCROLLING 2500 FT INSTEAD OF 1500 FT ON THE ALT PRESELECT HAS CAUSED ME TO CONTINUE CLB BEFORE REACHING 4.5 DME. THERE WAS NO TCAS ALERT OR CLOSE TFC AT ANY TIME. CLB WAS STOPPED AT 2200 FT WHEN THE CTLR BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTENTION.
