Narrative:
Reviewing the logbook during preflight; I noticed that the inbound crew from the night before wrote up the right engine valve light. ZZZ maintenance had a signed off entry that said that it removed and replaced the valve with it; checked and ok for service. Operating the anti-ice valve during the approach to ZZZ1; we had a repeat of the problem with the right engine valve light on with switch on. At the gate; reentering the grip into the logbook it then became obvious why we had a repeat of the problem. ZZZ maintenance didnT' replace the engine valve; they replaced the start valve! I obviously missed this in ZZZ during the origination preflight because I assumed they replaced the proper valve.

Title: AN MD-80 PILOT RECOGNIZES AFTER A REPEAT PROBLEM OF THE 'R' ENG ANTI-ICE VALVE LIGHT BEING 'ON;' THAT MAINT HAD REPLACED THE START VALVE; NOT THE ENGINE ANTI-ICE VALVE.
Narrative: REVIEWING THE LOGBOOK DURING PREFLT; I NOTICED THAT THE INBOUND CREW FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE WROTE UP THE R ENG VALVE LIGHT. ZZZ MAINT HAD A SIGNED OFF ENTRY THAT SAID THAT IT REMOVED AND REPLACED THE VALVE WITH IT; CHKED AND OK FOR SVC. OPERATING THE ANTI-ICE VALVE DURING THE APCH TO ZZZ1; WE HAD A REPEAT OF THE PROB WITH THE R ENG VALVE LIGHT ON WITH SWITCH ON. AT THE GATE; REENTERING THE GRIP INTO THE LOGBOOK IT THEN BECAME OBVIOUS WHY WE HAD A REPEAT OF THE PROB. ZZZ MAINT DIDNT' REPLACE THE ENG VALVE; THEY REPLACED THE START VALVE! I OBVIOUSLY MISSED THIS IN ZZZ DURING THE ORIGINATION PREFLT BECAUSE I ASSUMED THEY REPLACED THE PROPER VALVE.
