Narrative:
After heated conversation about when you are supposed to switch to ground after the tower has handed you off and you will be crossing an active runway; an MD80 was coming across runway 25R. I made the comment that this aircraft had the right-of-way because he was clearing an active runway. The captain said 'he does not have the right-of-way' and was attempting to beat the other aircraft or at least try to intimidate the other aircraft into giving way to us. I remember the involuntary action of pushing back into my seat because I thought we were going to collide with the other aircraft. I also have the vivid memory of seeing the relief first officer moving back at the same time. The ground controller did; during this game of chicken; give us the instruction to give way to the MD80. A call that was missed due to the captain's insistence that we had the right-of-way. After the delay to follow; the rest was uneventful.
