Narrative:
Left transponder failed after takeoff. Discussed with dispatch; continued flight. 2 hours into flight; pilot bunkroom smoke alarm went off for 3 mins; then extinguished. No noticeable cause for alarm going off. Just prior to that; lost left pack and consulted maintenance and dispatch. Elected to continue atlantic crossing; but to divert into lhr rather than continue on with no redundant pack or transponder. Lhr insisted that we couldn't land overweight since previous accident had restr operations to one runway and they could not risk us fouling the other runway with a blown tire. We dumped fuel at 15000 ft; 50 NM west of strumble; then had 45 mins holding before arrival into lhr. Uneventful landing. Passenger put up overnight and we continued the next day with re-staffed flight attendant crew.

Title: B777 FLT CREW REPORTS PACK FAILURE DURING EASTBOUND ATLANTIC CROSSING AND DIVERTS TO EGLL DUE TO ABSENCE OF MAINTENANCE AT DESTINATION.
Narrative: L XPONDER FAILED AFTER TKOF. DISCUSSED WITH DISPATCH; CONTINUED FLT. 2 HRS INTO FLT; PLT BUNKROOM SMOKE ALARM WENT OFF FOR 3 MINS; THEN EXTINGUISHED. NO NOTICEABLE CAUSE FOR ALARM GOING OFF. JUST PRIOR TO THAT; LOST L PACK AND CONSULTED MAINT AND DISPATCH. ELECTED TO CONTINUE ATLANTIC XING; BUT TO DIVERT INTO LHR RATHER THAN CONTINUE ON WITH NO REDUNDANT PACK OR XPONDER. LHR INSISTED THAT WE COULDN'T LAND OVERWT SINCE PREVIOUS ACCIDENT HAD RESTR OPS TO ONE RWY AND THEY COULD NOT RISK US FOULING THE OTHER RWY WITH A BLOWN TIRE. WE DUMPED FUEL AT 15000 FT; 50 NM W OF STRUMBLE; THEN HAD 45 MINS HOLDING BEFORE ARR INTO LHR. UNEVENTFUL LNDG. PAX PUT UP OVERNIGHT AND WE CONTINUED THE NEXT DAY WITH RE-STAFFED FLT ATTENDANT CREW.
