Narrative:
This report is about what I feel is a safety and security issue which is the pretkof contamination check. The check accomplishes nothing; is a poor procedure; and I can see better from the cockpit window of the guppy. It is a safety concern because it creates a rush of procedures at a very critical time of operation. I am rushed to get myself belted back in; seat adjusted; headset back on; and do the final items checklist all while ATC is harping for us to get going and the captain does the engine run-up. By the time we are rolling down the runway; my head is by no means caught up to the aircraft and I am still partly an observer. The check accomplishes nothing as I cannot see through the cabin windows and the 'loss of gloss' check does not work in real world situations. Security is also an issue for obvious reasons during the crew member position exchange. If safety is of the utmost importance; which from my perspective it is; put someone in a bucket at the departure end of the runways that all airlines can use to do the final check.
