Narrative:
During the arrival to lax our clearance was the seavu 1 arrival. During the descent; socal recleared us the RIVER6 to runway 24R. We reloaded the arrival in the FMC and queried the controller since turning onto that arrival would cause a traffic conflict. He said he made a mistake and recleared us the SEAVU1 to runway 25L (with the descent). Now we had to again reload the arrival and runway while trying to comply with the altitudes. This resulted in us being initially between arrivals. While no conflicts ever developed; it was a very tasking and disorienting situation to be in. We finally established ourselves on the arrival and continued uneventfully. The ATC frequency was very busy at the time. Make sure ATC assigns us the arrival and runway early and not change them.
