Narrative:
Pushed back; started engines; ran all checklists through before takeoff. Asked for takeoff from intersection F; runway 17R at sdf. Cleared for takeoff from intersection F. Both txwys marked 'F.' instead of turning right onto runway from 'F;' we taxied straight on 'F' then right turn onto runway 11; then right onto runway 17R for takeoff. Runway 11 was not an active runway as they were using runway 17L and runway 17R only for lndgs and takeoffs. In hindsight; we should have made a hard right on 'F' then onto runway 17R for takeoff. Both txwys marked 'F' -- confusing; plus; did not see runway 11 as our attention was on runway 17R and eastward for conflicts. Nothing said to us which 'F' to use; plus going straight ahead on 'F' gave us additional runway for use. Our performance computer says only intersection 'F' -- does not say which one of the two to use.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CONFUSED BY TXWY SIGNS INDICATING 'F' TXWY ENTERED BOTH RWYS 11 AND 17R AT SDF; PLT CHOOSES WRONG ONE WHEN CLEARED FOR TKOF ON 17R AT 'F.' RWY 11 INCURSION RESULTS.
Narrative: PUSHED BACK; STARTED ENGS; RAN ALL CHKLISTS THROUGH BEFORE TKOF. ASKED FOR TKOF FROM INTXN F; RWY 17R AT SDF. CLRED FOR TKOF FROM INTXN F. BOTH TXWYS MARKED 'F.' INSTEAD OF TURNING R ONTO RWY FROM 'F;' WE TAXIED STRAIGHT ON 'F' THEN R TURN ONTO RWY 11; THEN R ONTO RWY 17R FOR TKOF. RWY 11 WAS NOT AN ACTIVE RWY AS THEY WERE USING RWY 17L AND RWY 17R ONLY FOR LNDGS AND TKOFS. IN HINDSIGHT; WE SHOULD HAVE MADE A HARD R ON 'F' THEN ONTO RWY 17R FOR TKOF. BOTH TXWYS MARKED 'F' -- CONFUSING; PLUS; DID NOT SEE RWY 11 AS OUR ATTN WAS ON RWY 17R AND EASTWARD FOR CONFLICTS. NOTHING SAID TO US WHICH 'F' TO USE; PLUS GOING STRAIGHT AHEAD ON 'F' GAVE US ADDITIONAL RWY FOR USE. OUR PERFORMANCE COMPUTER SAYS ONLY INTXN 'F' -- DOES NOT SAY WHICH ONE OF THE TWO TO USE.
