Narrative:
Our filed route was sfo normm alcoa buten/ZZZZ. Our revised segment on the pre departure clearance was GAPP3 sfo alcoa. The SID states; expect vectors to filed route after passing normm. On departure passing normm controller asked us if we were turning towards alcoa. We stated no; we were waiting for our vector per the SID. Controller then cleared us to alcoa.
