Narrative:

At cruise altitude FL320; lead flight attendant informed the captain that she observed and tackled a fire/smoke in the aft lavatory. Upon receiving this information; emergency checklist was completed and; with the concurrence of the captain and company dispatch; ZZZ was determined to be the suitable and practical airport for landing. Emergency was declared. Passenger were informed about the situation and the decision to divert the aircraft. In coordination with center and approach; we landed at ZZZ. While descending towards ZZZ; flaps 1 degree was selected below their deployment speed of 230 KIAS. During their deployment; aircraft momentarily accelerated while flaps were still transitioning. Situation was immediately recognized and corrected. After landing; we sought the assistance of the fire marshall; first to confirm that there was no external smoke/flame in blind/hind corners of the aircraft. Upon reaching the gate; the fire marshall was asked to board the aircraft to render an opinion about the need for any extra action by the flight and cabin crew; passenger were deplaned using the normal boarding door and the jetbridge in ZZZ. Once the passenger had deplaned; the captain secured the cockpit and rest of the crew secured the airplane while assisting auths in determining the source of the fire. We did not recall the momentary speed increase into ZZZ until we have already arrived in ZZZ; while reconstructing and talking to maintenance.

Title: E175 FLT AND CABIN CREWS RESPOND TO FIRE AND SMOKE IN THE AFT LAV.

Narrative: AT CRUISE ALT FL320; LEAD FLT ATTENDANT INFORMED THE CAPT THAT SHE OBSERVED AND TACKLED A FIRE/SMOKE IN THE AFT LAVATORY. UPON RECEIVING THIS INFO; EMER CHKLIST WAS COMPLETED AND; WITH THE CONCURRENCE OF THE CAPT AND COMPANY DISPATCH; ZZZ WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE SUITABLE AND PRACTICAL ARPT FOR LNDG. EMER WAS DECLARED. PAX WERE INFORMED ABOUT THE SITUATION AND THE DECISION TO DIVERT THE ACFT. IN COORD WITH CTR AND APCH; WE LANDED AT ZZZ. WHILE DSNDING TOWARDS ZZZ; FLAPS 1 DEG WAS SELECTED BELOW THEIR DEPLOYMENT SPD OF 230 KIAS. DURING THEIR DEPLOYMENT; ACFT MOMENTARILY ACCELERATED WHILE FLAPS WERE STILL TRANSITIONING. SITUATION WAS IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED AND CORRECTED. AFTER LNDG; WE SOUGHT THE ASSISTANCE OF THE FIRE MARSHALL; FIRST TO CONFIRM THAT THERE WAS NO EXTERNAL SMOKE/FLAME IN BLIND/HIND CORNERS OF THE ACFT. UPON REACHING THE GATE; THE FIRE MARSHALL WAS ASKED TO BOARD THE ACFT TO RENDER AN OPINION ABOUT THE NEED FOR ANY EXTRA ACTION BY THE FLT AND CABIN CREW; PAX WERE DEPLANED USING THE NORMAL BOARDING DOOR AND THE JETBRIDGE IN ZZZ. ONCE THE PAX HAD DEPLANED; THE CAPT SECURED THE COCKPIT AND REST OF THE CREW SECURED THE AIRPLANE WHILE ASSISTING AUTHS IN DETERMINING THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE. WE DID NOT RECALL THE MOMENTARY SPD INCREASE INTO ZZZ UNTIL WE HAVE ALREADY ARRIVED IN ZZZ; WHILE RECONSTRUCTING AND TALKING TO MAINT.
