Narrative:
On arrival into lax; due to multiple STAR clearances and runway changes; FMS duties increased dramatically. Additionally; multiple speed assignments and crossing altitudes were issued. After reentering STAR into FMS; failed to reselect navigation function. Consequently; aircraft stayed on a heading and drifted off the assigned STAR. After controller's query; flew assigned headings for an uneventful approach and landing.
