Narrative:
En route I experienced engine roughness. The WX was bad and my destination airport was about to close due to approach lights inoperative. When my engine stared to cough I declared an emergency and landed at my nearest suitable. I never at any moment lost full power. After I safely landed at ZZZ I analyzed the flight and realized that I was in a carbureted airplane (my normal is a fuel injection); and failed to try the carburetor. It did not cross my mind that carburetor ice would be a factor in a cruise power setting. No incident or damage was filed.
