Narrative:

Student pilot on supervised solo; called on ground frequency; and when requesting taxi clearance; said that he was a solo student pilot. I called tower afterward; but they said that they did not hear that even though I heard it over my handheld radio. Tower controller was quite abrasive with student; and issued several clrncs that were not very clear. The first was to yell at the student for doing an early crosswind. We have been doing the same crosswind for 70+ lndgs over the last several days. They also told student to do a left 270 degree turn from an extended right downwind to runway 31; and roll out on left base. The student continued on extended downwind where the controller yelled at him again to turn right base. The student had been doing touch-and-goes; but the tower cleared him to land. The student made touch-and-goes instead; and I think that he was just confused with all of the new clrncs that very few; probably less than 1% of private pilots in this country would understand. I have advised the student on getting the proper clearance. I have never seen such poor treatment of the student pilot! Further; hurling new tricks at the student seems to be most unproductive. The controller seems to be extremely moody at times; and is most contrary to safety.

Title: C152 STUDENT PILOT ON FIRST SOLO; RECEIVES POOR TREATMENT FROM TOWER CONTROLLER AND CONFUSING CLEARANCES.

Narrative: STUDENT PLT ON SUPERVISED SOLO; CALLED ON GND FREQ; AND WHEN REQUESTING TAXI CLRNC; SAID THAT HE WAS A SOLO STUDENT PLT. I CALLED TWR AFTERWARD; BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY DID NOT HEAR THAT EVEN THOUGH I HEARD IT OVER MY HANDHELD RADIO. TWR CTLR WAS QUITE ABRASIVE WITH STUDENT; AND ISSUED SEVERAL CLRNCS THAT WERE NOT VERY CLR. THE FIRST WAS TO YELL AT THE STUDENT FOR DOING AN EARLY XWIND. WE HAVE BEEN DOING THE SAME XWIND FOR 70+ LNDGS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS. THEY ALSO TOLD STUDENT TO DO A L 270 DEG TURN FROM AN EXTENDED R DOWNWIND TO RWY 31; AND ROLL OUT ON L BASE. THE STUDENT CONTINUED ON EXTENDED DOWNWIND WHERE THE CTLR YELLED AT HIM AGAIN TO TURN R BASE. THE STUDENT HAD BEEN DOING TOUCH-AND-GOES; BUT THE TWR CLRED HIM TO LAND. THE STUDENT MADE TOUCH-AND-GOES INSTEAD; AND I THINK THAT HE WAS JUST CONFUSED WITH ALL OF THE NEW CLRNCS THAT VERY FEW; PROBABLY LESS THAN 1% OF PVT PLTS IN THIS COUNTRY WOULD UNDERSTAND. I HAVE ADVISED THE STUDENT ON GETTING THE PROPER CLRNC. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH POOR TREATMENT OF THE STUDENT PLT! FURTHER; HURLING NEW TRICKS AT THE STUDENT SEEMS TO BE MOST UNPRODUCTIVE. THE CTLR SEEMS TO BE EXTREMELY MOODY AT TIMES; AND IS MOST CONTRARY TO SAFETY.
