At 210 KTS; the flaps were selected to 1 degree but between 0 and 1 indicated; we received a 'trailing edge flap asymmetrical' EICAS message and the associated amber light on the panel near the flap position indicator. The QRH procedure was followed; an emergency declared with crash fire rescue equipment assistance requested; and the passenger and flight attendants were informed and briefed of the situation. The aircraft landed on runway xx. After a brief inspection by the crash fire rescue equipment for hot brakes; we taxied to the gate without further incident.
