Narrative:
During descent; left engine would not respond to throttle movement. RPM remained at 95%. An emergency was declared and at 4000 ft left engine was shut down using the fire button. An uneventful landing was made. There were 2 pilots and 3 passenger on board; all are fine. I was told that the throttle came loose from the engine because no wire had been used to safety the castle nut. This information was given to me by the aircraft manager.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C550 FLT CREW WAS UNABLE TO REDUCE THRUST BELOW 95% IN DESCENT. THEY DECLARED AN EMERGENCY; SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE; AND PERFORMED A SINGLE ENGINE APPROACH AND LANDING.
