Narrative:
Myself and the captain got confused about a marking on the taxiway. The marking is a non-movement boundary. The marking comes 1/2 way in a turn and is a little difficult to clearly identify between a runway boundary marking or a non-movement area. We stopped briefly because runway incursions are a serious safety hazard. I would recommend putting a sign nearby stating leaving non-movement area. The marking is at cid airport while taxiing to runway 13 (next to the crash fire rescue equipment). I questioned ground and he said a lot of people get confused. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that as the flight crew approached the taxiway markings; they felt that they should hold short for fear of a runway incursion. When queried; ground control informed them that the markings identified the boundary of the non-movement area; and the runway hold short line was adjacent to the runway threshold.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW REPORTED CONFUSION WITH REGARD TO TXWY MARKINGS AT CID ARPT.
Narrative: MYSELF AND THE CAPT GOT CONFUSED ABOUT A MARKING ON THE TXWY. THE MARKING IS A NON-MOVEMENT BOUNDARY. THE MARKING COMES 1/2 WAY IN A TURN AND IS A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO CLEARLY IDENT BTWN A RWY BOUNDARY MARKING OR A NON-MOVEMENT AREA. WE STOPPED BRIEFLY BECAUSE RWY INCURSIONS ARE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I WOULD RECOMMEND PUTTING A SIGN NEARBY STATING LEAVING NON-MOVEMENT AREA. THE MARKING IS AT CID ARPT WHILE TAXIING TO RWY 13 (NEXT TO THE CFR). I QUESTIONED GND AND HE SAID A LOT OF PEOPLE GET CONFUSED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE REPORTER STATED THAT AS THE FLT CREW APPROACHED THE TXWY MARKINGS; THEY FELT THAT THEY SHOULD HOLD SHORT FOR FEAR OF A RWY INCURSION. WHEN QUERIED; GND CONTROL INFORMED THEM THAT THE MARKINGS IDENTIFIED THE BOUNDARY OF THE NON-MOVEMENT AREA; AND THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE WAS ADJACENT TO THE RWY THRESHOLD.
