Narrative:
During approach into san juan we were being vectored for landing. ATC called out a TA for traffic descending at our 12 O'clock position and we responded with a negative contact. The ATC controller asked the other traffic if they had us in sight and they responded that they were IMC. Then we received an RA with a monitor vertical speed; do not descend. Next the controller from what we remember responded with an immediate left turn to avoid traffic. The traffic passed under us at approximately 400-500 ft. Then we were clear of conflict and after complying with the RA and ATC instruction we were vectored for landing and were asked if we received an RA which we responded with an affirmative.
