Narrative:
Received numerous warnings and alerts that were obviously erroneous. Upper and lower EICAS were scrolling through all system and couldn't get it to stop. Worked with dispatch and maintenance control to find a fix. Were unable to fix the problem and decision was made to return to lax. Dumped fuel. Returned to lax for a slightly overweight normal landing.

Title: ERRONEOUS RAPIDLY SCROLLING EICAS WARNING MESSAGES FORCE B747-400 FLT CREW TO DUMP FUEL AND RETURN TO DEP ARPT.
Narrative: RECEIVED NUMEROUS WARNINGS AND ALERTS THAT WERE OBVIOUSLY ERRONEOUS. UPPER AND LOWER EICAS WERE SCROLLING THROUGH ALL SYS AND COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP. WORKED WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT CTL TO FIND A FIX. WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROB AND DECISION WAS MADE TO RETURN TO LAX. DUMPED FUEL. RETURNED TO LAX FOR A SLIGHTLY OVERWT NORMAL LNDG.
