Narrative:
While taxiing for takeoff to runway 8R at publication on our first visit to this airport; I (as the instructor) allowed the student (my son) to cross an area that is part of runway 8R. It has hold short lines; however; the runway begins east of this point maybe 1000 ft. There is no approach chevrons or white striping to suggest an approach area and as I was not well familiar with the layout; was looking for the runway farther from the ramp area. This runway appears to be in an area that had formerly been ramp and converted to a runway; currently. I should have recognized the red runway marker and hold short lines for what they are protecting. The taxiway goes to the runway 8L runway at this point and has a taxiway; yellow line; that crosses this area leading you to the other runway and its signage. After crossing this area ground control informed me of the error and asked me to call the tower. I complied and the remaining flight was uneventful.
