Narrative:
During cruise; left center boost pump low pressure light illuminated with associated EICAS message. Left and right fuel tanks were full and center tank had approximately 10000 pounds. Reconfigured fuel panel in accordance with applicable irregular procedure but realized procedure would result in lateral out of balance situation in that the xfeed valve was not open and only the right center boost pump was operating. Opened the xfeed valve so fuel to both engines could be supplied by the center tank. Contacted maintenance to discuss situation who agreed with our assessment. Continued to destination with left center boost pump turned off. The irregular procedure for center boost pump low pressure lights needs to be reviewed and corrected.
