Narrative:
Landing a 450 stearman in gusty winds. As tail lowered; gust caught aircraft and the aircraft went off the right side of the runway. When wheels drop down about 2 ft to grass level off the right side; the aircraft went on its nose and over onto its back. Prevention by better directional control of aircraft although I am not sure how I could have accomplished that given how quick the loss of direction control happen. Will take additional training.

Title: A STEARMAN PILOT LOST CONTROL WHILE LANDING IN GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS; WENT OFF THE RUNWAY; AND FLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT ONTO ITS BACK.
Narrative: LNDG A 450 STEARMAN IN GUSTY WINDS. AS TAIL LOWERED; GUST CAUGHT ACFT AND THE ACFT WENT OFF THE R SIDE OF THE RWY. WHEN WHEELS DROP DOWN ABOUT 2 FT TO GRASS LEVEL OFF THE R SIDE; THE ACFT WENT ON ITS NOSE AND OVER ONTO ITS BACK. PREVENTION BY BETTER DIRECTIONAL CTL OF ACFT ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE HOW I COULD HAVE ACCOMPLISHED THAT GIVEN HOW QUICK THE LOSS OF DIRECTION CTL HAPPEN. WILL TAKE ADDITIONAL TRAINING.
