Narrative:
During closed pattern training (touch-and-go) at bfi; my aircraft would have collided with another inbound aircraft had evasive action not been taken. I was in transition from crosswind turn after takeoff just starting to level wings before turning downwind when my CFI took sudden and immediate evasive action to avoid collision with another aircraft entering the pattern inbound from an unknown origin. I believe a midair collision would have occurred if evasive action had not been taken. The inbound aircraft came way too close. This very close call could have been avoided if ATC had advised me to extend my upwind and advised of the traffic. I believe I am alive today only because of the exceptional situational awareness of my CFI.

Title: A LIGHT AIRCRAFT IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AT BFI EXPERIENCED A NMAC WITH ANOTHER AIRCRAFT.
Narrative: DURING CLOSED PATTERN TRAINING (TOUCH-AND-GO) AT BFI; MY ACFT WOULD HAVE COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER INBOUND ACFT HAD EVASIVE ACTION NOT BEEN TAKEN. I WAS IN TRANSITION FROM XWIND TURN AFTER TKOF JUST STARTING TO LEVEL WINGS BEFORE TURNING DOWNWIND WHEN MY CFI TOOK SUDDEN AND IMMEDIATE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID COLLISION WITH ANOTHER ACFT ENTERING THE PATTERN INBOUND FROM AN UNKNOWN ORIGIN. I BELIEVE A MIDAIR COLLISION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED IF EVASIVE ACTION HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN. THE INBOUND ACFT CAME WAY TOO CLOSE. THIS VERY CLOSE CALL COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF ATC HAD ADVISED ME TO EXTEND MY UPWIND AND ADVISED OF THE TFC. I BELIEVE I AM ALIVE TODAY ONLY BECAUSE OF THE EXCEPTIONAL SITUATIONAL AWARENESS OF MY CFI.
