Narrative:
Fuel was 6000 pounds less than scheduled fuel at abc intersection. Declared an emergency and diverted to ZZZ. Descent; approach and landing were uneventful. Crash fire rescue equipment was alerted to possible fuel leak and followed aircraft to gate. ZZZ maintenance said this aircraft had a history of fuel problems.

Title: MD80 DECLARES EMERGENCY AND DIVERTS TO NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT DUE TO EXCESSIVE FUEL BURN/LOSS.
Narrative: FUEL WAS 6000 LBS LESS THAN SCHEDULED FUEL AT ABC INTXN. DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED TO ZZZ. DSCNT; APCH AND LNDG WERE UNEVENTFUL. CFR WAS ALERTED TO POSSIBLE FUEL LEAK AND FOLLOWED ACFT TO GATE. ZZZ MAINT SAID THIS ACFT HAD A HISTORY OF FUEL PROBS.
