Narrative:
I went to have breakfast on the layover in ZZZ and ordered first an orange juice which I then changed to a grapefruit juice from the waitress. I did not watch her prepare the drink and she shortly brought me what I thought was a glass of grapefruit juice only. I took drink of the juice through the straw provided and realized after I had swallowed the drink that she had also put alcohol (vodka or rum) in the drink. She thought I had ordered their morning drink special. The time according to my cell phone was XB08A and I knew my departure time was very close to being exactly 12 hours away. I left the restaurant and went outside to call flight operations to confirm my scheduled departure time. He said it was at XA50P local. So I then told him that I had just inadvertently had an alcoholic drink inside the 12 hour rule by 18 mins and we needed to delay our departure by the same amount. He said he'd take care of it and I went back to the hotel. I received a call from the crew desk about 2 hours later informing me I'd been reassigned to a later departure and that that captain would take my flight out on time. I don't know what I could have done differently other than state categorically 'no alcohol' when I ordered or smell each drink before I consume it.

Narrative: I WENT TO HAVE BREAKFAST ON THE LAYOVER IN ZZZ AND ORDERED FIRST AN ORANGE JUICE WHICH I THEN CHANGED TO A GRAPEFRUIT JUICE FROM THE WAITRESS. I DID NOT WATCH HER PREPARE THE DRINK AND SHE SHORTLY BROUGHT ME WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A GLASS OF GRAPEFRUIT JUICE ONLY. SHE THOUGHT I HAD ORDERED THEIR MORNING DRINK SPECIAL. THE TIME ACCORDING TO MY CELL PHONE WAS XB08A AND I KNEW MY DEP TIME WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING EXACTLY 12 HRS AWAY. I LEFT THE RESTAURANT AND WENT OUTSIDE TO CALL FLT OPS TO CONFIRM MY SCHEDULED DEP TIME. HE SAID IT WAS AT XA50P LCL. SO I THEN TOLD HIM THAT I HAD JUST INADVERTENTLY HAD AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK INSIDE THE 12 HR RULE BY 18 MINS AND WE NEEDED TO DELAY OUR DEP BY THE SAME AMOUNT. HE SAID HE'D TAKE CARE OF IT AND I WENT BACK TO THE HOTEL. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE CREW DESK ABOUT 2 HRS LATER INFORMING ME I'D BEEN REASSIGNED TO A LATER DEP AND THAT THAT CAPT WOULD TAKE MY FLT OUT ON TIME. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY OTHER THAN STATE CATEGORICALLY 'NO ALCOHOL' WHEN I ORDERED OR SMELL EACH DRINK BEFORE I CONSUME IT.
