Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff; received an ECAM warning for a #1 center tank fuel pump low pressure. Performed ECAM; ECAM follow-up and supplemental abnormal handbook procedures. The confign dictated by these procedures resulted in a main tank imbal where only 1 tank was inexplicably feeding both engines. Consulted pilot handbook for approved xfeed procedures. Instituted procedures; corrected imbal but observed left main fuel tank increasing in quantity. Based upon 2 unexplained anomalies (1) tank imbal and later (2) tank quantity increasing; our complement of (3) experienced airbus pilots reached an immediate and unanimous consensus to return to field. Safety of flight was never an issue. Normal uneventful return and landing. This report is being filed under the category of return to field.
